Overview of the Role
As an MSSQL Cloud Administrator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability,
performance, and security of our clients’ MSSQL database environments. You will be
responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing database solutions both on-
premises and in the cloud, supporting business-critical applications and driving service
excellence. Your expertise will directly contribute to seamless operations, data integrity,
and effective collaboration across cross-functional teams.
Detailed Responsibilities
- Administer and support MSSQL databases (versions 2014, 2016) including
upgrades, installations, and configuration for production and non-production
environments.
- Implement and manage MSSQL High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HADR)
solutions such as Always-On Availability Groups.
- Conduct regular test drills to validate database backup and restore strategies in
compliance with company policies.
- Configure, monitor, and maintain database backup schedules, alerts, and
performance metrics.
- Oversee user lifecycle management: create, manage, and revoke user access,
ensuring role-based security and compliance.
- Manage database schema, objects, and user security in line with organizational
policies.
- Support database and data migrations, including planning and execution for
minimal disruption.
- Monitor, analyze, and resolve database performance issues, proactively
identifying improvement opportunities.
- Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as monitoring job status,
analyzing alerts and logs, and maintaining database statistics.
- Restore and refresh databases as requested by application and business teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional and application teams to support database-
related activities and deploy approved scripts.
- Provide end-to-end operational support through monitoring, incident response,
root cause analysis, and incident resolution.
- Adhere to ITIL framework and processes for ticketing, problem, and change
management, including emergency changes.
- Participate in service improvement plans and contribute to innovation initiatives.
- Troubleshoot complex and business-critical database issues, ensuring minimal
downtime.
- Drive team skill enhancement by identifying training needs and sharing best
practices.
- Coordinate with vendors and other technical teams for issue resolution and
knowledge sharing.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including best practice guides,
known error records, and knowledge base articles.
- Ensure compliance with agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and provide
accurate, timely reporting as per Statement of Work (SOW).
Skill Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related
field.
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) and/or Microsoft Certified
Solutions Expert (MCSE) certifications are mandatory.
- Proven experience in administering MSSQL databases (2014, 2016) in
enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in installing, upgrading, and configuring MSSQL
databases.
- Hands-on experience with HADR solutions, especially Always-On Availability
Groups.
- Strong understanding of backup/restore processes, database security, and user
management.
-Familiarity with ITIL processes for incident, problem, and change management.
- Proficient in database performance tuning, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proactive approach to
problem-solving.
Other Requirements (Optional)
- Experience with cloud-based MSSQL deployments and migrations.
- Knowledge of additional database platforms (e.g., Oracle, MySQL) is a plus.
- Exposure to automation tools and scripting (PowerShell, T-SQL).
- Prior experience working in a global delivery model or multinational teams.
- Ability to create technical training materials and deliver team workshops.
